On top of that, it was only doing it sometimes. What could cause my car to misfire under load, like climbing a hill? Answered by: Carmen , An Expert in the Troubleshooting Category A misfire under load complaint can usually be broken down into 2 categories. Misfire unfortunately is one of those grey areas because of how many things can cause it. A bad battery terminal CAN cause it, it's not impossible, but doubtfully because all the battery would have to have such a dramatic voltage spike in order to cause components to cause misfire, plus it'd have to happen more than once in order to fire up that CEL. Learn what does P0300 Kia Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected means, location and how to repair? When a misfire occurs, engine speed will fluctuate. If the engine speed fluctuates enough to cause the Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor signal to vary,

This was timely because after changing the MAP sensor and clearing the MIL codes (disconnected the battery), code 43 returned within 2 outings with the vehicle. The AutoTap reported Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC’s) of P0300 (engine misfire) and P0301 (misfire detected in cylinder #1).
I added a battery disconnect solenoid to it and that has got it bandaided for now. I believe that the ECU is draining it because it is warm when I touch it. I also have an issue with after riding hard for a few minutes it starts to misfire, gets worse and worse till i guess it fouls the plug and dies.

Sep 11, 2018 · The most common cause of misfires on this platform is a weak coilpack that cannot generate enough spark energy to ignite the dense fuel/air mixture. The quickest way to test this is to move the affected coilpack (s) to other cylinders. Keep track of where you moved them to, then clear the codes. The misfire will easily be felt while driving, and often requires immediate repair by trained automotive repair specialists. As the engine misfires, the engine can quickly overheat and pre-ignite the fuel mixture. A damaged fuel injector will not only causes issues with driving, but the effects will persist even as the engine idles. You probably wouldn't get misfired from a bad battery or alternator. Usually, a bad battery just lets the voltage drop so low during start, that it causes electric gremlins on circuits controlled by the SAMs. If the only code you have is misfire, then my guess is something along the lines of plugs, MAF, or coils. P0300 is a "generic" misfire code. Right you are about the idle valve in the low rpm. The reason I suggested looking into that was because of the idle fluctuation you mention going up to 2000 or so with the second line showing up. Low battery voltage can also affect fuel delivery by causing the fuel pump to run slower than normal. This, in turn, causes, low fuel pressure and a lean fuel condition. Under some conditions, a low battery may even prevent one or more injectors from opening normally causing lean misfire and/or hard starting.

Bad fuel causes a rough-running engine. Drain the fuel tank and fill it with fresh gasoline if the fuel is over 6 months old. Use fuel stabilizer to keep the gasoline fresh. Low cylinder compression causes a rough running engine. Check and adjust the valve lash on the engine if you find low cylinder compression. Misfire under load accompanied by low overall spike heights during the snap-kV test would tell you the available voltage from the coil is low. The most likely cause, in this case, would be a faulty ignition coil. But low battery voltage might also be a factor, too. Be sure to check the battery and charging voltage.
